Name
better known as Ahmad Kandang (1964 — 27 January 2001) was a GAM fighter figure. He once served as Operations Commander for the Free Acheh Movement in the Pase region.
His real name is Muhammad Rasyid. But he's better to known as Ahmad Kandang. The reason is, he was born and lives in Meunasah Blang Kandang Village, Muara Dua, North Acheh.
At the end of December 1998, Ahmad Kandang became the most wanted GAM leader by security forces. He was accused of being the mastermind behind the murder of a number of ABRI members. This also prompted ABRI "Pak'i" (colonialist) to launch Operation Wibawa '99 which made in Acheh a battlefield. As a field operator, it was not easy for the Pak'i (colonialist) to arrest Ahmad Kandang. He is protected by the troops and people of Kandang.
Ahmad Kandang is known as the Robinhood of Acheh. The main perpetrator of the Bank Central Asia (BCA) Lhokseumawe burglary in February 1997 was very much loved by the public. He often shared his good fortune with the people in his village. This is also what makes it always protected by the community.
In mid-November 1998, for example, when Brimob troops surrounded Ahmad Kandang's house, they did not dare to shoot the GAM Pasee commander because in the house where Ahmad was hiding there were mothers and babies. Residents even formed a posse to protect it. This fighter used this opportunity to escape and escape.
Ahmad Kandang is known as an expert in bomb making. Many of the bombs installed to hinder Pak'i (colonialist)
operations were made by him. However, his fate was tragic, because he died because the bomb he assembled exploded. In fact, he prepared the bomb to block the Pak'i convoy.
